About

Frensham

Frensham LTC was founded in June 1970, but its roots go back further. When Kathleen Walker moved to Frensham in 1947, she found few people interested in tennis and courts in poor condition. Undeterred, she rallied the village, persuaded the parish council to keep the courts rather than replace them with a bowling green, and built the foundations of what would become the club. Subs were £1 a year.

Over the years Kathleen helped countless children learn the game, many of whom went on to introduce their own children to tennis at the same club. She played until she was 80 and was made a life member in 1986. She passed away in 2005, and a clock was unveiled at the club in her memory in 2008.

Since those early days the club has continued to grow. A shared clubhouse was built in 1979 alongside the cricket and bowls clubs, floodlights were installed thanks to lottery funding secured by then-chairman Ron Taylor, and the clubhouse was renovated in 2006. The social sessions that Kathleen helped to establish are still going strong today.
